Sun on Ben Nevis

Ben Nevis Via the Mountain Track

Spend the day walking up the UK's highest Mountain Ben Nevis 1345m.Join one of my summer public group walks to the summit of Ben Nevis.

Most people find Ben Nevis a pretty tough day of walking. It takes around 7 - 9 hrs on average depending on the groups fitness. We will be covering 17km/10.5m distance and 1350 metres of ascent and descent. The route known as the Mountain Track or Pony Track was built in 1883 to serve the weather observatory on the summit. It is the most used and easiest route to the top.

The hike starts off on easier ground to begin with from the Ben Nevis Visitor Centre. It soon gets rockier and more exposed the higher we climb. Many accidents have happened over the years on the descent as it requires a good degree of concentration at the end of the day when the legs and mind are tired. It is a good idea to remember that the summit is only half way!Indeed everyone finds that the descent is the hardest part!!

It is definitely worth putting in the effort to train before the day. Most people completely underestimate how hard a day Ben Nevis actually is! The fitter you are for the day the more you will enjoy it and remember in the years to come.

On the day the weather could be anything! Indeed i have seen snow every month of the year on the summit! So having the equipment and clothing to suit the weather is vital for any ascent regardless of the time of year.

Here at Up and Doon Guided Walks I am extremely conscious of the impact that I and my business have on Ben Nevis. In order to reduce my personal impact on this important natural asset.I have decided to reduce the amount of trips I run on the mountain. This means I will only be offering the dates below for walks on Ben Nevis via the Mountain Track.Book your spot early to avoid disappointment.

You can also join in and help protect Ben Nevis for future generations. If you would like to make a donation to help look after Ben Nevis you can do so via Friends of Nevis
